The Municipal Council of Curepipe falls under the aegis of the Ministry of Local Government, and is governed by the provisions of the Local Government Act 2003.

    
The duties and responsibilities of the Municipal Council of Curepipe are wide ranging and include among others the cleaning and lighting of roads, construction and maintenance of roads, collection and removal of disposal sites household refuse, maintenance of drains, streets etc.

   
The Council provides educational facilities through its library and two Municipal pre-primary schools. Moreover, it often organises sports and other leisure activities for the citizens.

  
It is headed by the Chief Executive also known as Town Clerk and who is financially and administratively responsible to the Council and to the parent Ministry.

    The Council comprises of 24 elected members called as councillors, among whom are elected one Mayor and one Deputy Mayor. Others are Chairmen of Committees or members.
