department is managed by the Chief Health Inspector Mr Seelumbur
The
Inspectorate comprises 5 Senior Health
Inspectors, 8 Health Inspectors & 10
Asst. Health Inspectors.
The
Function of the department are as
follows:
- Organisation
& supervision of waste
collection, cleaning of roadside
& storm water drains, &
eradication of environmental
nuisances & control of rat
proliferation.
- Upkeep
& maintenance of SSR Botanical
Gardens, Town Hall Gardens, green
space around the town & Bigarade
Cemetery.
- Cleaning
& Maintenance of Public
Lavatories.
- Management
of the Market & Le Forum
Bi-weekly Fair.
- Control
& Issue of Trade Licences for
professional & commercial
activities.
- Management of traffic centres
The
Department implements all policies & decisions taken by the
Public Health Committee.

DUTIES
The duties of this department are as
follows:
Provision of scavenging service
- Weekly for kitchen wastes
- Fortnightly for garden wastes
- Daily service in town center
- Against payment on special request
Cleaning of drains, & rivulets
- At least thrice per year for the 20 Km (approx.) of rivers and
rivulets
- Cleaning of the 85 cross drains, and roadside drains
Sweeping & cleaning of roads &
wastelands
- Sweeping of the town center throughout the day from 7am till 8pm
- Sweeping of all roads and open drain once at least on a
fortnightly basis
- Spraying of herbicide in all the roads and lanes of the town
- Weeding of roadsides
- Ensure cleanliness of bare lands

- Ensure food for sale are fit for human consumption
- Maintain Cleanliness of site and public toilets
- Ensure stall Holders abide by all the hygienic and other norms
